Adorno and Hebdige 

 Adorno

  • Believes capitalists creates video to creates video to create false needs, we need false needs 
  • With false needs we make our own decisions - things that don't really matter but we feel like it does for example X- Factor .
Hebdige 

  • opposite of Adorno
  • People interperate Music Videos differently 
  • Effects how people consume music in the future 
  • Subcultures , we make our own decisions on how we consume music  
 Dyer 
  • Stars have some key features, an image and not a real person 
  • Image constructed by advertising, TVs, Magazines 
  • Star image  made by paradoxes, 1st star is ordinary and extraordinary, 
  • ordinary  is daily tasks like shopping and driving, doing normal people activities.
  • Extraordinary is just them being a star like going live on stage advertising etc 
  • 2nd consumer thinks they know the star well but they don't physically know them or know what happens behind the scenes. 
  • Stars depend on subsudiary media for example Tv and radio to construct image of themselves

  • 2 different types of ideologies of creativity, The Organic ideology and the Synthetic Ideology 
Organic 
  • A naturalistic approach to artists 
  • The image is enhanced by the the record company 
  • The artist is given time to evolve and progress through their career 
  • Emphasis on album sales and the consruction of it being successful  

Synthetic

  • Emphasis is given to the single sales and to promoting first albums (One hit wonders)
  • a combinatorial approach to artists and material 
  •  The image of the artist is constructed by the record company 
  • The artist is given short time to prove their success before other combinations will be tried out
